Bakes - Barbara
April 2013
My name is Barbara Baker and my SOPer name is Bakes. I am 58 years young and I have been posting on the SOP thread since November, 2012. I lurked on the thread for months before I decided to join. I needed the tough love and accountability SOP provides but wasn't sure I could dedicate the time and energy required to preplan meals and post daily. I also knew that what I was doing was not working. Following the SOPer rules has required me to make the commitment to follow the SOP guidelines and I am proud to say that have been a SOPer for 5 months.
I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with my husband and my yorkie, Cocoa Baby. We have two daughters and one grandson. I am very fortunate to have a large family and great friends. My adult kids live close to me and visit often. We also have a vacation home at Harkers Island, North Carolina where I enjoy swimming, boating and fishing.
I retired from state government in January 2012 with 34 1/2 years of service. I ended my career as the Department's Budget/ Purchasing Director. I had a very stressful job that required me to work long hours, especially during the legislative session.
My hobbies include gardening at home and at the beach, reading, swimming, bike riding, cake decorating and boating activities.
I started WW in April 2005 and made lifetime in November of the same year. I stayed at lifetime for about two years and then I started gaining weight. I became the yo-yo dieter. I would gain weight, go back on WW and lose the weight while never really developing healthy eating habits. Since I began posting and following the SOPer rules I have lost 14 lbs and I am eating healthy and feel great. My weight watcher lifetime goal weight is 155, my SOP weight goal is 150 but I will weigh 149 or less before I go to maintenance.
For me, the key to weight loss is being on the Watch Watcher Program, then taking it to the next level by following the SOPer rules. Knowing this is a journey, I will fall down but I will get up, brush myself off and keep going. I am so grateful to Leather, our fearless leader. She walks beside us on this journey and awards us for our accomplishments. I am honored to a SOPer with this amazing group of women and thankful for their support and friendship.
