Preschool - Tina
March 12, 2012
I'm Kristina (Tina) Reams. I am 37 years old and live in Michigan. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula and moved downstate after graduating from college. I met my husband in January 2005 at church. We got married in June of 2006. Our first son, J.J., was born on April 28, 2007. Our second son, Noah, was born on May 1, 2008. At that point I decided to stop teaching and stay at home with the boys.
Growing up I was always told that I was pudgy by my family. No one at school ever made fun of me so my weight didn't bother me until middle school. At that point I began going on diets with my mom. We did a lot of different diets, but I never had a sustained weight loss. In high school I joined the cross country team and the swim team. I never weighed myself, but many people commented on how good I looked. When I went to college, I stopped working out and my weight sky-rocketed. Again, I stayed away from scales, but I was wearing a tight size 18 at my heaviest.
After college I got a teaching job in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and moved away from all family and friends. I was working with children between the ages of 5-10 with severe disabilities. I loved my job! It was so amazing and rewarding to be a part of their learning experiences. During this time I joined Weight Watchers for the first time. I lost 20 pounds and quit, quickly gaining the weight back.
Two years later I joined again, began to lose weight, and was 160 pounds when I got married. It was then that I quit Weight Watchers again, became pregnant, had a baby, became pregnant again and had my second baby. At this point I was over 200 pounds. I was able to get down to 197 pounds and then joined Weight Watchers once more.
I achieved Lifetime in September of 2009 with a goal weight of 146 pounds. I stopped going to meetings, and by September of 2011 I was once again 197 pounds. I was also diagnosed at this point in time with thyroid issues. This new health issue added to others I was dealing with was the last straw. It was recommended to me that I throw out processed foods and focus on whole foods. In October of 2011 I began eating a more whole foods diet and cutting out processed foods. I very slowly began to lose weight.
In January of 2012 I began lurking on the SOP thread. In February I re-joined Weight Watchers. In March I joined the SOP thread and am now down to 159 pounds.
I am so very grateful for all of the support I receive on the thread. I am not at my goal weight yet, but I will get there. I will stay at a healthy weight from now on because it is what I need to do to be healthy and here for my boys.
