Nee-link - Chanel
February 11, 2010
My name is Chanel and I live on Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands. My nickname growing up was Nel or Nelly. I wasn't too fond of Nelly (mostly due to popularity of Little House on the Prairie at the time!) But Nel is still what my dad calls me. My ww name is a combination of that nickname and my current home: Cayman or "K- Man"- so... Nel In K-Man!
I'm originally from Madison, WI and went to college in Tulsa, OK. I joke that I've been constantly moving south trying to find perfect weather. After graduating from college with my teaching degree, I moved here to work in a school for one year- 11 years later I'm hooked.
This past September my friend and I started a new school on the island; one geared towards students that struggle in large classes and need individualized programs due to learning difficulties, anxiety, ADHD, giftedness, etc. It’s been a challenging year, but we are seeing a lot of progress and the school is growing.
I’m 5’1” and currently 211 pounds. When I first joined the SOPers, my weight was 220- the highest I have ever been. My weight has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I’ve tried almost everything, half-heartedly. I’ve been a WW member since 2006, but have never seemed to stick to it long enough to see progress. This time it is different.
My ww goal is 125, but I honestly have a hard time picturing myself at that weight. The lowest I've been was 170 in 2004 (before Hurricane Ivan turned life upside down for awhile). I felt good at that weight, but I knew I could lose more. It’s going to be a long road, but I am determined to be successful this time. And to do it the right way. Being a part of the SOP thread/group has provided me with a more structured plan as well as the support and accountability that I have missed in previous attempts at weight loss.
A few more details about me…
1. I have never been married.
2. I don’t have any fur babies, but I enjoy babysitting for my friends when they go out of town,
3. I am a reality tv / game show junkie.
4. I have a head full of useless information that I am hoping will win me millions of dollars on a game show.
5. I have been leaning towards becoming a vegetarian. I am not a huge fan of meat/chicken/fish, but can’t seem to completely give it up.
