My name is Joan and I am from the San Francisco Bay Area. I have lived here all my life. I am 47 years old and have 2 beautiful daughters, ages 9 and 12. I have been divorced since my youngest was just a few months old. I am a legal assistant for an international law firm, and mostly like my job.
I have had weight issues my entire life. I went on my first "diet" in high school, the summer after my freshman year, and came back in the fall 25 lbs lighter. It’s been a roller coaster ride ever since. I have been on WW a million times, but my latest journey started in October 2008. I am 5’3” and started at my highest weight ever, 228 lbs. My doctor and I talked about a reasonable goal, and we agreed on 150 lbs. At 228, that seemed like an eternity away. It took me exactly one year to reach my goal of 150 lbs. Losing the weight seemed easier this time around, probably because my sister-in-law was on it as well.
Once I reached 150 lbs I felt absolutely fantastic, but my body was not ready to stop. Even on maintenance, I was still losing. Today, at 5’3” and 139 lbs, I feel great and am working towards my new goal of 135 lbs. I started a new job in July 2009. No one here knows the old me. That is motivating me to stay SOP.
I enjoy exercise when I can squeeze it in. I work out on my lunch hour, since my evenings are consumed with preparing dinner, sports and homework. I mostly enjoy spinning. I am trying to run more, but it's just not my favorite activity. Holly, AJ and all the other runners are definitely inspiring me.
